During 2023, the Foundation had the privilege of providing over $500,000 in grants to support the work of organizations addressing homelessness and food and health insecurity along with the ongoing support we offer to Episcopal churches and schools in our diocese. Innovative programs, special projects and outreach efforts have been enhanced through our 30 years of service, now totaling $11 million dollars of support.
A highlight this year was the Trustees Award presented to the Episcopal church in the diocese whose outstanding outreach efforts to the community they serve was worthy of the award as they serve God’s children in the East Dallas area.
The parishioners of San Francisco de Asis began a missional food ministry in 2014 by partnering with Community Crossroads to focus on feeding the underserved in the parish and surrounding community in East Dallas. In 2016 the program was expanded by partnering with Sharing Life and the North Dallas Food Bank by receiving and distributing food donations. The ministry also began serving weekly breakfasts on Saturday mornings. The majority of people receiving help are refugees from places as diverse as Burma, Mexico, Central America, Afghanistan, South America, Iraq and Africa.
Since 2016, the Episcopal Foundation of Dallas has granted $74,000 to assist and expand this ministry through the purchase of a forklift, a flatbed truck, technology upgrades and art & reading programs. This year, the ministry anticipates helping and serving 85,000 people by distributing almost 500,000 pounds (or 250 tons) of food and serving 40,000 meals.
The Foundation’s $25,000 award is our gift for their compassionate and impactful work. This gift is created from fees provided by our financial services and has no strings attached!
