Community Partners of Dallas was established in 1989, and has a mission to provide what abused children urgently need today to thrive tomorrow. Their vision is a community fully equipped and mobilized to help children prevail over abuse and neglect.  The organization is unique in that no other nonprofit agency in the Dallas County area meets the same specific needs. Their programs have been replicated in more than 155 cities in Texas. Community Partners of Dallas has evolved into a unique public-private partnership. As a result of their broad-based community support, Community Partners was previously named the Outstanding Volunteer Organization of the Year by the Volunteer Center in Dallas.

The Kids in Crisis Program provides funding for critical needs such as clothing, transportation, enrichment activities, housing, medical expenses, and therapy for these children.  These needs include monthly bus passes to facilitate parents’ ability to get to work and meet other obligations; rent and rent deposits; summer camp, musical instruments, and other special lessons for children; clothing if a child changes sizes or loses clothing in a fire or other accident; and medical expenses, including prescriptions, glasses, and dental work.

Their services are particularly important for these children because, unlike children in foster care, relatives who take in children receive no ongoing financial support from the state.  At this income level, all available funds usually go toward food and rent.  Funds are often not obtainable to purchase items critical to a child’s health and safety.  The program is a lifeline for children with needs that might otherwise fall through the cracks of available resources.

Community Partners served 3,500 children in 2023, and Kids in Crisis has served 118,000 of Dallas County’s abused and neglected children and provided direct support of over $2,750,000 since inception.
